The Texas Citizen Journal has previously reported on the campaign kick-off event for Congressional District 8 candidate Christian Collins. However, since the event was first announced, it has been revealed that a very special speaker will be in attendance: Rafael Cruz, father of Texas Senator Ted Cruz (who has also endorsed Collins).
The elder Cruz is a pastor with a truly incredible life story about his escape from communism in Cuba and subsequent immigration to the United States. He is perhaps his son’s best surrogate on the campaign trail. Collins worked closely with Rafael Cruz during his son’s 2016 campaign for president, traveling with the senator’s father on the campaign trail. Collins says he considers Pastor Cruz to be a personal mentor. Rafael Cruz even wrote the forward to Collins’ book, Second Wind.
With Senator Cruz endorsing Collins and his father now headlining an event for him, it seems like the Cruz family is going all in backing the former Cruz staffer to replace retiring Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX). After working for Cruz, Collins became the campaign manager for Brady before going on to found the Texas Youth Summit, an organization that works to educate and mobilize young conservatives.
The kick-off event for the Collins campaign is being held at Honor Cafe in Conroe on November 16, from 6-8:00 PM.
