Toth Not Running for Congress, Will Seek Re-election to State House

Widely considered to be a potential candidate to replace retiring Congressman Kevin Brady in Texas’ 8th District, State Representative Steve Toth (R-Conroe) announced Tuesday that he has other plans. Toth has decided to take a pass on running for Congress and instead will seek reelection to his current state house seat.

“Today, I’m announcing my plan to run for re-election for Texas House District 15,” said Toth. “I’m thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to serve you as one of the most conservative members of the Texas House.”

Toth’s announcement leaves Morgan Luttrell, Christian Collins, and Jonathan Hullihan as the leading contenders for CD-08. Had he run for Congress, he would have claimed a substantial percentage of the Tea Party wing of the party. His absence leaves that lane open for other candidates.
