Christian Collins Commits to Joining House Freedom Caucus

You can tell a lot about a person by the company they keep. In Texas’ 8th Congressional District, candidate Christian Collins is being very clear about the kinds of members he will associate with in the House.

“As your Congressman, I’ve committed to joining the Freedom Caucus,” said Collins, referring to the group of the 40 or so most right-wing members in the lower chamber. Or as Collins describes them, “a group of the most Conservative members banded together to fight the liberal left policies of Democrats and put pressure on Establishment Republicans to vote in the best interests of the American people and not compromise with Dems and special interests.”

“A lot of Republicans talk tough and say they’re ‘Conservative’ in a Republican primary race, but being willing to break with the Washington Establishment to have a Conservative voting record is what actually matters,” said Collins. “I’ll do just that if you elect me to Congress.”

On policy, Collins says his voting record will look like past and current members of the Freedom Caucus, “If you want to know how I’ll vote when I’m in Congress, look at leaders like Congressman Jim Jordan or former President Trump’s chief of staff and Congressman Mark Meadows.”

While Collins is a big fan of the Freedom Caucus, the respect is apparently mutual. Recent campaign finance filings show that House Freedom Action, a Political Action Committee (PAC) affiliated with the Freedom Caucus, is spending almost $244,000 supporting the Collins campaign.

Speaking of House Freedom Action’s support of his campaign, Collins says he is grateful for their support. “I am proud and humbled by this investment. When I get to Congress, they know I will fight for Conservative principles and hold other Republicans accountable to ensure they are doing the same. They know that I’m the most conservative candidate in the race for TX-8.”

House Freedom Action is not the only major player on the right to back Collins. Soon after Collins announced his candidacy, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz publicly endorsed him. Cruz’s father, Rafael Cruz, will be headlining Collins’ campaign kickoff party on November 16.
